The text is formed of a dialogue at a banquet between two parties, Hannibal and Knight.Written by native of Casale Monferrato, Stefano Guazzo, first published in 1574. This was a popular work, translated in English, Latin, French, and Spanish, and was printed well into the seventeenth century.In 1561, the author founded l'Accademia degli Illustrati, a literary academy in his hometown, Casale.Bound without title page, and leaf a8. Based on pagination, this copy is one of Altobello Salicato's 1580s editions of this work, published in Vinegia. In a contemporary vellum binding. Externally, lacking the front board. Some loss and lifting to the backstrip. Vellum is age-toned and marked, as is usual to see. Spine is faded. A small amount of loss of vellum to the rear board. Front endpaper and rear endpaper have been reinforced. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with the occasional handling mark and spot. Lacking the title page. Light tide mark to the text, a little heavier to gatherings C, D, I, P, R, S, and Z. Chip to leaf 2O6, resulting in marginal loss to the text.
