This updated edition of a successful text explains the basis and mechanisms of all types of physically based climate models and prepares the reader for the climate modelling literature. It will assist in understanding the relative complexities and applicabilities of the whole range of climate models without needing to follow each step or parameterization in a particular model.
New features include:
* Updated and improved illustrations and photos
* Discussion of Earth System Models of Intermediate Complexity (EMICs)
* Interactive exercises based on Energy Balance Model (EBM) and the Daisyworld model
* Updated programs for Win98 and Macintosh OSX
* Expanded consideration of the modelling of ocean circulation
* An accompanying CD includes:
* Window and Macintosh programs for an Energy Balance Model and other simple climate models
* Data from climate models in a form suitable for classroom use
