Beschreibung
A interesting catalogue of objects from church across the city of London. Illustrated with several plates, Edwin Freshfield's work documents some of the most notable objects held in the countries most prestigious churches. In the publisher's original cloth binding. This work have been printed privately. An inventory of Church Plates (objects made of precious metals and held in a church) from across the city of London. Illustrated with 9 plates, being photographs of objects mentioned. Collated complete. In addition the work boasts a lengthy introduction, in which, the author explores the Acts of Parliament that impact the churches in the city. Loosely inserted into the volume is a letter written by Noel Mander. Presumably the same Noel Mander to noted organ builder. He is best remembered for rebuilding the organ at St. Paul's Cathedral. The letter is inquiring into the silver used at St. Mary Aldermanbury in Fulton, London. Loosely inserted into the volume is a newspaper clipping, with the headline 'St. Paul's Treasury opens' and discusses the objects on show from their large collection. St. Paul's is also located in the city of London. In addition there is a photography of 'The Organ from St. Bartholomew', as well as several typed papers with lists of plates held in several churches. With the previous owners bookplate to the front pastedown of 'Peter Stickley, Parish Clerk, St Alban Wood St.' This is perhaps the same Peter addressed in Mander's letter. With an ink inscription to the front endpaper that reads 'Canon Musgrave from his affectionate nephew. 9. July. 1895. In the original cloth binding. Externally bumped to the head and tail of the spine, resulting in light fraying to the cloth. Light bumping also to the extremities. The front and rear boards are age toned, with light spots to the front and rear boards. Bookplate to the front pastedown, and ink inscription to the front endpaper. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright with the occasional spot. Several pages, a letter, newspaper cutting and photograph loosely inserted into the volume. Very Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 631C32
