8vo, pp xviii,[2],269,[3, adverts], complete with advert leaf before the title page, diagrams in text, bound in contemporary specked calf, spine with raised bands, lacking label, spine gilt rubbed but binding is sound with just short light crack to upper joint, internally sound and clean throuhgout, SECOND EDITION; 'First published in 1722, Benjamin Worster's work is significant as an early exposition of Newtonian science in English. and is an important example of the scientific lectures of the period. Worster lectured on natural philosophy at Thomas Watts's 'Accomtant's Office' in which he was apparently a partner along with Dr Desaguliers who lectured in French. The syllabus of his lectures, printed as an appendix to the work covers Newton's laws of motion, Newtonian physics and celestial mechanics, hydrostatics and pneumatics, and optics.'
