First edition. Folio (42 x 33.5cm). 'Edwards edition is as much a book of design as of type; spendidly printed in folio on thick paper, with an ample margin to each page. Around every alternate leaf Blake engraved wild, allegorical figures; designs little adapted to the apprehension of his public. He so engraved them as to make a picture of the whole page, as in his own illustrated poems.'- Gilchrist. pp. [viii],[2],95,[3]. With the final 'Explanation of Engravings' leaf, often missing but requisite for completeness, and thought by Gilchrist to be written by Fuseli. Four sectional titles & 39 magnificent borders all designed & engraved by Blake. Contemporary half calf, rebacked to style, the board corners a little worn. A few occasional light internal marks, occasional light trimming to borders as usually found with this work, the engravings designed to fit fully the page margins, but an excellent copy. Vg.
