Nella prosa sul lago d'Orta, si legge una descrizione del lago: "Una stravagante e varia vicenda di verdissime colline in triplice fila disposte, e che accoppiar sembrano tutte le romanzesche forme di quante altre mai sono sul nostro globo, accerchia cosi' d'appresso e strettamente il piccolo lago di Orta, che fra gli orli di questo, e le falde di quelle aprirsi appena vedreste un margine od uno scarso sentiero: cio' non di meno, se n'e' quinci tolto il diletto di qualche interposta valletta, o florido e comodo praticello alle sue rive, questa mancanza vienvi graziosamente compensata da un non so che di nuovo ch' ella stessa produce, Il lago Maggiore e' piu' maestoso, ma men vago di questo. Amenissima poi vi riesce la veduta degli alti e folti larici piramidali che lo coronano.". "Girolamo Orti fu un nobile veronese che spese parecchi anni in viaggiar l'Europa e poi ne scrisse l'Itinerario; nel quale discorse anche della flora del Veronese, mostrandosi pero' non troppo esperto negli studi botanici.
