We spend our days, personally and professionally, communicating. These verbal and nonverbal messages are the sources of our greatest joys and deepest frustrations. Thankfully, researchers have spent years generating theories that help explain and predict communication processes. Connecting Communication Theory and Practice: From Classroom to Boardroom introduces readers to communication theories across a variety of contexts, including organizations, media, health, the classroom, and more. 

The publication addresses specific issues of conflict, such as uncertainty, privacy, and deception. It helps students translate theory into practice. Therefore, each chapter includes evidence-based recommendations for communication. 

Connecting Communication Theory and Practice: From Classroom to Boardroom:

• is focused on translation―that is, how might students use theory to guide their message creation in their personal and professional lives?
• provides a high-level overview of multiple theories in relevant contexts - rather than spending one chapter on each theory.
• is developed by an author team with diverse backgrounds, research training, and professional experiences―motivated by a shared vision that students are translators of communication content who should be ambassadors of their discipline in the workplace. Namely, we hope that students will use this text to generate evidence-based recommendations for practice that should aid them in their professional success. 
• places sex, gender, and culture at the forefront of the text. We recognize that communication cannot be understood without exploring context, and sex, gender, and culture are at the core of that.
