A smartly bound three-volume constitutional history of England by English historian William Stubbs. Complete in three volumes. Library edition. A detailed history of English constitution and politics, beginning with its origins and early stages of the time of Caesar and the Saxons, before tracing the development of English institutions until 1485. Volume one provides discussion from Caesar and Tacitus to the Norman period, volume two follows with Edward I to Richard II, and volume three contains information from Lancaster and York to Parliament. With commentary on the clergy, King, and the Pope, as well as social and political influences at the close of the Middle Ages. Written by William Stubbs, an English historian and Anglican bishop who, in his lifetime, was appointed Regius Professor of Modern History at the University of Oxford, Bishop of Chester, and Bishop of Oxford. Bound in full calf with gilt. Externally, smart with rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards with library ink marks to the tail of the spines. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Further spotting to the endpapers with library ink stamps to the front endpapers. Very Good.
