B W Huebsch, New York. 1945 1st Edition. Publisher's original black cloth with titles on white label to upper board. The spine tips are a little rubbed and the lower fore edge corners have tiny bump creases but all fore edge corners remain firm and sharp. There is no other rubbing. The binding is tight and square. Internally, the pages are very bright, clean and crisp. The recto of the front free end paper is inscribed and signed in black fountain pen ink by the author as follows: 'For Harold M Phillips who taught me my first contribution to chess. God bless both of them. F.V.Morley, December 1945'. This was inscribed in the year that the US Chess Federation was founded - Harold Phillips would become the 4th President of the Federation, from 1951-54. The publisher's original dust jacket (also dated 1945) is unclipped and shows the original price of $2 and is now in a protective sleeve (not shown in the images). It has loss at both spine ends that encroaches onto both the front and rear panels and rubbing to corners. The spine is darkened, has drip marks on it, two tiny areas of loss and closed tears on three sides of the publisher¿s device and a 7cm closed tear from the bottom of the upper front edge which is not really visible when in the protective sleeve. In all, a very nice copy with a great inscription. If you would like any further images or information, please do not hesitate to contact us. Buchnummer des Verkäufers
