In overall good condition, with rubbing and wear to boards and spine. Title label intact on spine. Hinges remain in good condition and text block is bound well. Some tears along hinge to end papers at back of book. Light marking and marginalia. Includes a small selection of black-and-white plates throughout. Staining and wear to edges and corners of some pages .General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce piece on chemistry by British scientist Humphry Davy (1778-1829), an influential chemist who discovered the properties of several major elements, including the effects of nitrous oxide as laughing gas . Davy was also an inventor and president of the Royal Society during his later years.
