The second edition of this charming account of Maguerite Gardiner's conversations with Lord Byron. The Countess of Blessington's most popular work, a record of her own conversations with the charming poet Lord Byron. Marguerite Gardiner became acquainted with Byron in Genoa when she settled there for four months with Count D'Orsay, French artist and dandy.The second edition of this work, originally published in 1834. Embellished with two plates portraits of Lady Blessington and Lord Byron. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally rather worn with shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. With minor loss to the head and tail of the spine and a minor closed tear to the lower joint. General light soiling to the boards. The spine has fairly darkened. Previous ownership inscription to the front free endpaper, dated 1977 and to the title page, undated. Internally, the hinges are strained, generally holding, with some amateur tape repairing to the plate facing p. 1. The binding is slightly tender, holding firm. With light spotting scattered throughout. A minor staining mark to the upper margin of the last few leaves, not affecting the text. Illustrated with portraits of Lady Blessington and Lord Byron.
