Inhaltsangabe:

Europe, 1547 and he siege of St Andrews Castle is finally over.

Will Seton has paid the price. Chained to a French galley, he faces brutal labour, hunger and despair, while the faith that once sustained him is tested to its limits.

His sister Bethia has escaped a different fate. Newly married and living among her husband's merchant converso family in Antwerp, she hopes at last to find stability. Instead, she finds herself navigating unfamiliar loyalties, dangerous secrets and a city where religious tensions are rising.

Separated by distance and faith, brother and sister struggle to build new lives in a world transformed by the Reformation. As persecution spreads and suspicion grows, both must decide what they are willing to sacrifice for faith, family and survival.

From the harbours of Scotland to the bustling streets of Antwerp, the award winning The Conversos is a vivid and compelling story of courage, resilience and the enduring bonds of family.

''I was utterly spellbound. The author has made momentous historical events feel personal and human.' Rachel Caldecott

"An engaging sequel to The Castilians and a fascinating insight into the plight of Jewish converts in sixteenth-century Antwerp." Margaret Skea

"Amazing book! Gripping, colourful and so enjoyable. The writing really brings this part of history to life." Amazon Reviewer

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor: V E H Masters was born and grew up on a farm just outside of St. Andrews in Scotland. She's been fascinated by the siege of St Andrews Castle ever since her history teacher took the class on a visit, which included going down the siege tunnel dug out of rock and peering into the bottle dungeon where Cardinal Beaton's body is said to have been kept, pickled in salt, for over a year. When she learned that the group who took the castle and held it for over 14 months, resisting the many attempts to re-take it, called themselves the Castilians, she knew even then it was the perfect title for the story. The second in series, The Conversos, which picks up to the hour where The Castilians left off, continues the dramatic adventures of Bethia and Will in Antwerp and Berwick, England. The Apostates, the third in series follows our protagonists across Europe to where they seek sanctuary in Venice... which of course necessitated a visit to that beautiful city.To find out more please go to her website https://vehmasters.com/ and she would be honoured if you signed up for the newsletter.
