Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

Hardcover with red cloth over boards, gold lettering along spine and insignia on front cover. No DJ. Spine faded about half a shade lighter than covers, no impact on lettering. A few faint scuffs from shelf wear. Covers remain structurally sound, only lightly worn from age. No date on title page. Copyright page dated 1951, stated revised edition. 233 pages. Former owners' names written on the front free endpaper: Lincoln P. Brower and Jane V.Z. Brower. Brower was a major figure in lepidoptery and an outspoken conservationist; Jane Van Zandt was his first wife. Below their printed names are notes from Brower on the book, primarily summarizing points of interest, with referenced page numbers. Throughout the text there are further annotations, mostly in pencil, including "philosophical only?" "But is the slower development an ill effect?", an interest in empathetic learning, and notes of similar sources to reference. None of Brower's marginalia renders the original text illegible. Binding is very shallowly cracked along the title page, not revealing any backing linen or loosening pages. Otherwise tight and secure. We ve got a wonderful bookcase or two of books from Lincoln Brower s collection listed here. Everything you know about Monarch Butterflies, you know because of Brower s work, both scientific and outreach. He was a great teacher, an important researcher, a torch-bearing conservationist, and a leading light in lepidoptery. We are extremely excited to offer his books. Please email us with questions or to request photos.…
