Core Concepts in Geotechnical Engineering is a practical introduction to soils and rocks, site investigation, and ground improvement techniques. It presents the core concepts of several geotechnical structures such as shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, slopes, embankments, earth dams, machine foundations, buried structures and tunnels. It also focuses on pavements, and geotechnical structures with geosynthetics.

Dr Sanjay Kumar Shukla is an Associate Professor and Program Leader of the Discipline of Civil Engineering in the School of Engineering, Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia. He has over twenty years' teaching, research and consultancy experience in the field of Geotechnical and Geosynthetic Engineering.
