Beschreibung
A two volume set of Cornhill Magazine, including volumes V and VI. The magazine was founded by George Murray Smith in 1859 in order to compete with Dickens' hugely successful All The Year Round in terms of readership. As such, Murray was to hire William Thackeray as editor, who was noted as Dickens' main literary rival at the time. Includes illustrative plates and vignettes throughout, as well as a pull out illustration to each volume. In half-calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, Volume V is sound whereas Volume VI has a detached front board. There is also wear to the backstrips, boards and extremities, and some loss to the spine label on Volume VI. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean, but are foxed and spotted throughout, particularly to the endpages. The text remains clear. Fair. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers LTH30-E-6
