COVID-19 and the Sustainable Development Goals: Societal Influence explores how the coronavirus pandemic impacts the implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), paying particular attention to socioeconomic and disaster risk management dimensions. Sections provide a foundational understanding of the virus and its risk factors, cover relevant mitigation measures for minimizing the spread of COVID-19, explore the virus’s originations and transmission mechanisms, and look at gold standard procedures for COVID-19 testing and antibody-based diagnosis. Final sections present the latest insights on the global effects of COVID-19 and examine potential future challenges, opportunities and strategic responses.

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hadi Dehghani is a full professor at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), School of Public Health, Department of Environmental Health Engineering, Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran. His scientific research interests include environmental science. He is the author of various research studies published in national and international journals and conference proceedings and head of several research projects at the TUMS. He has authored 20 books, 26 book chapters and more than 270 full papers published in peer-reviewed journals. He is an editorial board member, guest editor, and reviewer in many internal and international journals and a member of several international science committees worldwide. He also has the distinction of being listed in the top 2% of the world’s most influential scientists in the area of environmental sciences. He is a supervisor and advisor for many PhD and MSc theses at the TUMS. He is currently also a member of the Iranian Association of Environmental Health (IAEH) and member of the Institute for Environmental Research (IER) at the TUMS. Dr. Rama Rao Karri is a Professor (Sr. Asst) in the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Brunei, Brunei Darussalam. He has a Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Master’s from IIT Kanpur in Chemical Engineering. He has worked as a Post-Doctoral research fellow at NUS, Singapore for about six years and has over 18 years of working experience in Academics, Industry, and Research. He has experience of working in multidisciplinary fields and has expertise in various evolutionary optimization techniques and process modelling. He has published 150+ research articles in reputed journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings with a combined Impact factor of 611.43 and has an h-index of 28 (Scopus - citations: 2600+) and 27 (Google Scholar -citations: 3000+). He is an editorial board member in 10 renowned journals and a peer-review member for more than 93 reputed journals and has peer-reviewed more than 410 articles. Also, he handled 112 articles as an editor. He also has the distinction of being listed in the top 2% of the world’s most influential scientists in the area of environmental sciences and chemicals for the Years 2021 & 2022. The List of the Top 2% of Scientists in the World compiled and published by Stanford University is based on their international scientific publications, the number of scientific citations for research, and participation in the review and editing of scientific research. He held a position as Editor-in-Chief (2019-2021) in the International Journal of Chemoinformatics and Chemical Engineering, IGI Global, USA. He is also an Associate editor in Scientific Reports, Springer Nature & International Journal of Energy and Water Resources (IJEWR), Springer Inc. He is also a Managing Guest editor for Spl. Dr. Sharmili Roy is currently pursuing her second Post-Doctoral Research in Oncology / Medical Research at the Division of Oncology, School of Medicine, Stanford University, California, USA. She earned her PhD. from Universiti of Brunei Darussalam, Brunei under the supervision of Prof. Minhaz Uddin Ahmed. Prior to joining Stanford University, she worked for her first Post-Doctoral training at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India as a National Post Doctorate holder (NPDF) funded by SERB, Government of India. Her current research is focused on the development of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology with various clinical samples, especially with many kinds of cancer DNA samples, molecular diagnostics on cancer, and DNA digital data storage process. She has expertized on point of care biosensors technology development based on Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) during her Ph.D. tenure. She has published several high impact factor research papers such as Biosensors and Bioelectronics, Analytical Methods, ACS sensors, Food Control, Food chemistry, Electroanalysis, 3 biotech, etc. Alongside, she has 3 USA patents, 5 book chapters, and 1 book with Prof. Chandra entitled," Diagnostic strategies for COVID-19 and other Coronaviruses" in Springer, May 2020 (https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9789811560057)
