An entertaining collection of poems by John Hall-Stevenson, an eighteenth-century country gentleman and writer. A limited edition, one of two hundred and ten copies printed on hand-made paper, this numbered forty. Five copies were printed on Japanese vellum.Containing a series of amusing and witty poems, in which the author described the meeting of his friends at Skelton, or 'Crazy Castle'. With titles such as 'Zachary's Tale,' 'Antony's Tale,' 'My Cousin's Tale.'This edition is intended as a companion volume to Fletcher's translation of 'Martial' issued the year before in 1893.From the library of Robert Ellis Cunliffe of the Bengal service, father of Sir Robert Alfred Cunliffe, 5th Baronet. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally excellent with minor shelf wear only and some bumping tot he head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. With Robert Ellis Cunliffe's bookplate tot he front pastedown, as well as a previous ownership signature to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound.
