Isaac D'Israeli's collection of miscellaneous facts concerning the history of literature, a new edition complete in one volume with the text printed on double column, the first edition was issued in five volumes in 1791-1823. A collection of essays with a variety of anecdotes about historical persons and events, unusual books, and the habits of book-collectors.A very popular work in the nineteenth century.Illustrated with a frontispiece engraved portrait of the author and a folding plate facsimile of Pope's manuscript of Homer. In a charming full calf binding. No halt title. In a full calf binding with five raised bands, intricate gilt tooling to the spine and gilt to the extremities of the boards, marbled endpapers and edges. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear and a minor rubbing to the joints, a minor mark to the rear board. Small bookseller sticker to the front pastedown. Previous owner's gift inscription to the recto front blank page, dated 1867. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to the first few leaves and the odd page, although, generally, the pages are very clean throughout. Illustrated with a frontispiece and folding table, with a minor marginal tear.
