Occasional spotting, short tear to one folding table. A revised edition of a Georgian military manual, first published at Dublin in 1768, no doubt deemed prudent due to the continuing hostilities of the American War of Independence. Cuthbertson, sometime captain of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, details the necessities for the administration of a British Army Battalion, from the provision of arms to the conduct of courts martial. The final chapter is devoted to proposals for reinstating permanently maintained light infantry companies, a practice abandoned after the Seven Years' War. Intriguingly, such companies were reintroduced to active service in 1770; as such Cuthbertson's arguments are somewhat redundant, and inclusion in this edition moot. ESTC T114996. Size: 8vo.
