Spine is faded with a tear in bottom third of spine--also worn at head and foot of spine. Black and white frontis portrait of the author plus [8] 238 pages (including a preface to the ninth edition, and a postscript by the author reprinted from the third edition) plus 8 pages of publisher's ads. On the spine of the book is printed: Harmonic Fiction Series No. 1, in addition to the title and author. Also, the emblem "RA" in a circle. The emblem is repeated on the dedication page.
