A charming, scarce Victorian moveable picture book, relaying a humorous tale of three troublesome kittens, with moving parts and tabs. Publisher Dean & Son pioneered the production of moveable books on a large scale, using lithographs and moving tabs to create what they termed 'living pictures' from the late 1850s onwards.This work provides illustrations to accompany American poet Eliza Lee Cabot Follen's humorous poem about three kittens.Illustrated with eight plates hand-coloured plates, with moving parts.Plate I retaining mother cat's arms arm and head, but lacking all three kittens. Moving mechanism working. Closed tear to tail of plate.Plate II retains one detached arm, but lacks kitten, and head of adult cat. Lacking all pieces to reverse.Plate III retaining two out of three cats. With one cat loosely inserted, and one cat in full working order.Plate IV retaining all parts, with moving mechanism in full working order, but with tabs renewed to reverse, with one tape repair.Plate V retaining all coloured pieces, but lacking the mechanism and pull tab to the rear.Plate VI retaining all but one of the coloured pieces, but lacking the mechanism and pull tab to the rear.Plate VII lacking one coloured piece.
