Debbie Mitchell is a Texas decorative painter and designer, that has spent many years designing, publishing and teaching to encourage
others to attempt their painting with confidence, creativity and
practice. They too, will achieve a feeling of expression, self-satisfaction and accomplishment with their painting skills.
With 27 total years of painting experience, in which includes
about 13 years of publications and teaching, she is renowned for her
cheerful, charming, lovable “Cozy Cubby” bear characters that have
shown such affection to many, even on an International level. These
bears are brought to life, with many light, airy layers of stippled fur, well depicted in this fun summertime project!
Travel teaching consumes a large portion of her time, visiting
several chapters and shops per year, throughout the states. Showing
guidance to others, she teaches in other countries including Japan,
Argentina and Canada, which all have been an experience to embrace,
savor and to learn from.
She has five books published along with a numerous selection of pattern packets. Many packets depict the Cubby Collection in all
seasons, which are available.
Hopefully, these lil’ Cubbies will inspire or influence each of your lives, through their whimsical antics and life like positions and situations, taking you “back in time” a bit, with many fond memories of yesteryear, to cherish always. Basically self-taught, with no formal training and countless
hours, imparts the sense that “ everything” is possible when you focus
and put your best efforts forward. Devotion and the fact that you love
to paint, has contributed to develop the talent within. Besides the book and pattern publications, there have been numerous magazine articles,designs produced into other products that appear in other craft medias or have been licensed to manufacture in various markets.
Family is very important and her’s is a large part and help with the entire business. As a family, they work closely together in all aspects that make up the profession, including the wood shop now.
Her Two kids are growing up; ages 22 and 18.
She has a collection of “pocket puppies” (Chihuahua’s), that keep her entertained, loved and company, at home.
As a result of her perseverance with painting and designing, she has been capable of persuing avenues that are truly of special interest.
