ABOUT THIS TITLE AND BOOK:"The Decameron" is a classic work of Italian literature, written by Giovanni Boccaccio in the 14th century. The title is derived from the Greek words "deka" (ten) and "mera" (day), reflecting the book's structure of 100 tales told by ten young women and men over ten days. The work is renowned for its comprehensive portrayal of life during the Black Death, as the storytellers have retreated to the countryside to escape the plague ravaging Florence. Boccaccio's tales range from the erotic to the tragic, the pious to the mundane, and are considered a masterpiece of classical early Italian prose. The translator, John Payne (1842 1916), was a poet and translator, known for his translations of Boccaccio and other significant works from French and Italian literature. Louis Chalon, the illustrator, was a French artist known for his book illustrations and paintings. The style and quality of his illustrations could add to the book's collectibility and aesthetic value. Happy to send pictures and answer a questions. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers B-FICT-GBOCCA-01
