First printing of the revised edition with a new preface. This edition re-instates, for the first time, the text of the original draft that was subject to amendment by the publisher of the 1928 edition. The novel was rejected by Duckworth on the grounds of 'indelicacy' but accepted by Ralph Straus of Chapman & Hall subject to the changes reversed in this newly re-set edition. .
