Beschreibung
The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex,by English naturalist Charles Darwin, was first published in 1871. It applies evolutionary theory to human evolution, and details his theory of sexual selection, a form of biological adaptation distinct from, yet interconnected with, natural selection. The book discusses many related issues, including evolutionary psychology, evolutionary ethics, evolutionary musicology, differences between human races, differences between sexes, the dominant role of women in mate choice, and the relevance of the evolutionary theory to society. It is generally considered Darwin's second most important work, after The Origin of Species. This copy is good+ in the publisher's original dark green cloth, with gilt titles on the spine and blind-stamped borders on both covers. It shows minor wear on the covers, with scuffing at the edges and tiny tears at the spine ends. The gilt titles are a bit faded. Both inner hinges are cracked, but the binding is still relatively sound. The personal book label of a previous owner, Adam Leigh, is affixed to the ffep. Slight foxing, primarily on endpapers. Page edges are age darkened. No other marks or damage. (Freeman 976). KO. Second Edition, (Fourteenth Thousand, Revised and Augmented). Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers B586
