Since the 1980s, the diagram has become a preferred method for researching, communicating, theorising and making architectural designs, ideas and projects. Thus the rise of the diagram, as opposed to the model or the drawing, is the one of the most significant new developments in the process of design in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. MARK GARCIA is the Research Co-ordinator and an MPhil/PhD Supervisor in the Department of Architecture at the Royal College of Art (RCA). Mark has worked for Branson Coates Architecture and has held academic research posts at St Antony’s College (Oxford University) and the Department of Industrial Design Engineering (Royal College of Art), as well as lecturing in Universities across Japan, Switzerland and the UK. Mark is guest-editor of AD Architextiles, November, 2006 (John Wiley & Sons Ltd) and AD Patterns of Architecture, November, 2009 (John Wiley & Sons Ltd).
