6 volume folio set with raised band leather spines in green cloth with gilt top.14 by 11 inches. All volumes tight with no loose boards. Leather has scuffing and needs a leather preservative. Contents are complete with some intermittent light foxing. Originally published in 1852 with 152 plates. Over the years the society issued a series of detached essays and more plates. This edition looks to be a compilation of the 1852 edition and the essays. I counted at least 213 plates in this edition. There is a broadside tipped into the front that explains that a very few sets were made up for this edition and the rest of the parts were destroyed. Price in 1892 was 17 pound 10. There is also a letter from B.T. Batsford talking about the set tipped in. Prints are lithographs of high quality and a number are in color. Ex lib with a small stamp to back of plates.
