'Extracted from accurate copies of the original records, accompanied with translations, illustrative notes, analysis of contents, and general introduction' A fascinating work relaying the information in the 'Great Survey' of England and Wales in 1086 by order of William the Conqueror, known as the Domesday Book. The text in two columns contrasting the original text and the modern translation, giving the account of the historical county of Wiltshire as it stood at the time. In a cloth binding with gilt title to board and spine. Externally, smart with rubbing to the boards and extremities. Spine is heavily faded and slightly bumped. Marks to the boards. Binders label to Bone and Son to rear pastedown. Front hinge slightly strained but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages bright with light scattered spotting in places.
