This G+ quality and first edition book was copyrighted in 1909 and is published by D. Appleton and Company; it is 7-7/8" tall with 314 numbered pages of text followed by the last, unnumbered, page of text. This book has a slight lean, is rather clean, free of edge dings with all four corners lightly bumped; the head and heel of the spine are lightly bumped with some slight color loss and slight fraying; the bottom edges have a moderate amount of wear, though both front corners are worn almost to the boards. The spine is reasonably clean and not at all faded but quite worn; the white lettering is worn and the publisher's name is mostly gone but the author's name and title are still legible and the small image is clear and pretty much intact; the front panel is also clean but also has wear to the white paint. Except for an inked name on the front paste down and a penciled name/city neatly "X"-ed out on the FFEP, the interior is free of writing, stray marks and paper damage of any type; several pages have stains that do not hinder the reading of the text. Both hinges are quite strong and not damaged in any fashion, though the paper over the front hinge is starting to tear. The text paper is slightly toned and remains flexible and not brittle. The book has no remainder mark and is not a former library book. It has a frontis + 3 illustrations, all somewhat tinted.
