Chapter One

A Dream of Love (Precious, a P in the Pod)

Just as any other warm summer morning, I awoke a bit early to the sound of birds singing their love songs and the sun shining ever so brightly through my bedroom window. Instead of getting out of bed, I turned sideways, facing the window, just to feel the warm sun on my cheeks. The sound of the birds chirping was so sweet that I closed my eyes just to try to understand the songs they were singing back and forth. It sounded like a series of love songs, and I was so eager to know the words. It was a heavenly sound to my ears. As I opened my eyes for a moment and gazed out at the trees, suddenly a colorful bird flew close by and landed on a branch full of leaves near my window; there the sun just glistened on the bird, a beautiful rainbow of colors. In that instant the songs became so loud that I drifted off into a deep sleep.

It was a warm day in May, and I found myself sitting outside on the grass, listening to my two older sisters talking, as usual, about men. My eldest sister, Princess, was planning her wedding, which was scheduled for August of the next year. All she spoke of was her upcoming wedding and her honeymoon. She and her future husband had planned to go to some fancy honeymoon suite in Hawaii. Princess talked and talked about her honeymoon, but she had no clue whatsoever what any kind of intimacy with a man meant.

Our parents had given us the names Princess, Pretty, and Precious, the three Ps, and they had an explanation for all three names. It was "Future Princess," "Simply Pretty," and "My Precious." Every one of us fit our names to a tee. Princess had a royal attitude and a regal look. She always dressed like royalty; she even walked like a future queen. Believe it, the man in her life had to treat her like one, and she had found him. Ironically, his name was King Malech, and yes, we teased her often; we always had a good laugh. Princess had always planned to marry a man that had money, a good job, etc.... she never wanted to want for anything. I use to think her name was a curse only because it suited her so well.

Now Pretty was different; she was a little rough and tough. No one messed with her growing up. She would fool the average man because she was so pretty, yet so strong willed and strong bodied. As for me, "My Precious," I was just that ... precious. I was the baby, so everyone held me a bit closer; they were overprotective and, yes, they spoiled me. I attracted mates that would be very protective of me; if they weren't they wouldn't really appeal to me much. As time passed I've come to realize we all really live up to our names.

As my sisters' conversation about men and love intensified, I was just daydreaming, letting the warm sun hit my face, laughing at them quietly. Out of the three of us, I thought I knew the most when it came to intimate issues only because I read, wrote, and dreamed more about it. Love and intimacy were always on my mind in one way or another. Princess spoke only about what a man could buy or do for her and how she would look. Pretty just didn't want a wimp or a soft man. She wanted someone challenging, firm, and often (get my drift?). She just wanted someone that could really handle her. I don't think love was really an issue for her.

We sisters did a lot of talking. We were normally curious about sex, especially when we started experiencing lustful and unexplainable urges, even though we were raised very old-fashioned. We still managed to make a vow to save ourselves for marriage. One thing we knew from our parents: our bodies were sacred and were all we really had to call our own. A man had to be worthy and committed to receive our goodies. We all managed to stick to our vow, probably because we lived in the boondocks, away from the masses. I believe that was our parents' plan all along. However, living in the sub-suburbs really wasn't so bad; we always had neighbors, and we did have plenty of friends, boys and girls. We thought our growing up was very normal.

Princess was twenty-five years old and had finished college last August, and she worked for the same bank for the past two years. She was scheduled for a promotion to senior executive financial officer any day. Her fiancé, King, no doubt was a vice president for another bank; they were a match made in heaven.

Pretty was twenty-three and was a physical education instructor in a junior high school. She was somewhat dainty and very pretty, but sometimes if you heard her speak, she would shock you. She was so bold and boisterous about whatever she wanted to do or say. She wasn't afraid of saying much of anything, either.

Now I, Precious, on the other hand, was so elegantly homely and fragile, not enough to break into pieces, but lovingly precious. I was the twenty-one-year-old elementary school teacher, always doing something with the children in school and in our community.

I am that sister that's always looking for true love, an intimate knight in shining armor, loving yet gentle and full of romance and passion. I am the dreamer looking for a fairy-tale lover, I presumed. For some reason I didn't really believe or think one really existed, especially according to my sisters and our girlfriends. I had decided to create my own lover most of the time, with a little bit of everything from all the female doubters' imaginations, and yes, my imagination was the largest.

All of a sudden, Princess and Pretty were all over me, laughing. "Please don't tell us you're dreaming about your lover again; girl, snap out of it!".

I told them both to get off of me; they were both crazy and jealous, hat's all. "Neither one of you has an idea of what it would or should be like."

"Oh, please, describe it to us," they said. I threw up my hands, waving them off and said, "You're not even ready, believe me."

Princess then said, "Come on, Precious, tell me. I'm getting married soon; I need to know something and you have some good stories to tell. I need to hear one right about now. I want to make sure I have some kind of idea about something."

With a lustful look on her face, Pretty then said, "You know all he has to be is ..."

"Don't say it," said Princess. "Your mind is so vulgar. I don't think you will ever make...
