An apparently unrecorded provincially published broadside response to a riddle devised by poet William Cowper (1731-1800): I'm just two and two, I am warm, I am cold, The parent of numbers that cannot be told; I am lawful, unlawful - a duty, a fault, Often sold very dear, good for nothing when bought.
