The Saturday Review was published 14 December, 1896, whereas The Chap-Book was issued December 15, 1896. (See Ray, The Collected Short Stories of Thomas Hardy). The wraps are worn at the spine, with some separation, and lack a small portion of the upper corner on the upper wrap (no loss)., else this is a very good copy.
