OBSCURE PRIMARY RESOURCE Record of the first British effort to establish friendly relations with Burma. The embassy produced a great deal of knowledge about Burma, included in the book, but failed to establish good diplomatic or trade relations except for the establishment of a British Residency in Rangoon. With an account of the Andamans, with valuable primary comments by Mr. Dalrymple. The hospitable reception of the Embassy in Rangoon, Pegue, grand display of fireworks, abundance of wild game, description of Mima-Shun-Rua village of prosti- tutes. Indigo, cotton, fruits & plant commentaries, mineral & gem riches, tea, ceramics, gun powder, marriage, funerals, dress, food, climate, music, language, rivers, animals, pro- duce, weapons, war boats, &c. "The Birmans are a lively, in- quisitive race, active, irascible & impatient."
