The spine is rubbed with the titling faded & small pieces out of the head & tail. The top inch of the rear joint is split. iv & 475 pp. & 4-page publisher's catalogue. There is a pencil name on the front endpaper & a red check mark on the rear endpaper. Some bottom page corners are creased & there are small stains to the title & a few other pages. Good. Essays on artists, politicians, scientists and others, among them Daniel Boone, Edmund Kean, Robert Fulton, Chateaubriand, De Witt Clinton, Jenny Lind, Giacomo Leopardi, John James Audubon, Massimo D'Azeglio, Charles Brockden Brown, Benjamin Franklin and John Constable.
