"Edith's Honor, or, The Clairvoyant's Secret" by Marie Cornell, is a story issued in Elmira New York by Otto Ruediger Publishing and Premium House. This edition seems to be unrecorded. As can be seen from views of the interior, Mr. Ruediger was involved in selling clothing, or at least the material necessary for the creation of the styles depicted, which may have been for patterns only. The book here offered seems to be part of a series of 'premiums' offered . much as other companies offered 'premiums' to foster further sales. I have provided views of the fashions being offered on the insides of each cover . in front ladies fashions . at the rear fashions for infants and children. This seems to have been offered in conjunction with an outfit called Union Pattern . there is a coupon still attached at the bottom of the interior of the rear cover. (Pattern Department, Wolfer Printing and Publishing Co., NYC) //// The front cover states "Premium Edition", which seems to indicate that this was the first of a series of installments; on the rear cover it exhorts, "Read first number to-day!" , which further goes to supporting this being the first issue of a series of installments, each book in the series furthering the story. The Chemung County Historical Society Manuscript Library has material that indicates that Ruediger had issued other works in installments at other times. I have been able to find out nothing about either the story, or the author, Marie Cornell (which may well have been a pseudonym) . In fact, I do not even know if this story was issued in further installments or if perhaps this single installment was the only manifestation of the story in this incarnation. It is a romantic potboiler. //// The story ends abruptly in mid-sentence, on page 32: "Was such a thing possible? Were her eyes deceiving her? Anguish and horror were written in her pallid face, and then . (to be continued) . but . was it ever? //// SERIES : Premium Installment Series TITLE : Edith's Honor, or, The Clairvoyant's Secret AUTHOR : Marie Cornell IMPRINT : Otto Ruediger Publishing and Premium House PLACE : Elmira, New York DATE : No Date [circa 1909] EDITION : First Installment … ( I couldn t find any evidence of later installments ) Large digest format paperback; Contains line illustrations (advertising) and a reproduction of an engraving; 32 pages; approximately 5 3/4" x 8 3/4"; pictorial wraps, stapled, printed in shades of sepia.
