Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and seventy-four colour plates. Collated complete. A detailed guide to the country of Egypt and options for tourists, with chapters on Cairo, bazaars, mosques and public buildings, the Nile, Goshen, the desert, religion, and social conditions. Written and illustrated by Robert George Talbot Kelly, an English orientalist landscape and genre painter, author and illustrator. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd mark to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. In a blue cloth hardcover with gilt titles to spine and dark red titles to front and coloured illustrations to spine and front. No dust jacket. 246 pp., with 75 colour illustrations with tissue guards. The book is in good condition with minor shelf-wear to the extremities of the cover. The cover is sunned, especially the spine, and there is marking of the boards, especially to the edge of the front board and, more extensively, to the back board. The hinges are intact but the binding is slightly slack, occasionally the webbing can be seen between sections of the book. There is a former owner's details to the front paste down and a dedication and the trace of a short note in pencil to the ffep.
