Sound information is particularly necessary in the case of locks, of which there is such a large and complex variety avail. able. It should be remembered that once the door has been cut it is more than difficult to replace the lock if it should prove to be unsuitable on the grounds of quality. The hole in the door cannot be made good with-out the mutilation being seen. Also of equal importance is the cost of maintenance; this is reducible to a minimum at very little extra initial cost if the best possible lock is fitted instead of an inferior one, as so often happens. We hope, therefore, that all users will become more conscious of such permanent fixtures as a result of reading this book.
