664 Pages. This is the August 1965 Reprint of the March 1955 Edition. Boards show some minor edge and corner wear however corners are not bumped. Interior text pages are flawless. This edition is a revised and expanded ediion of the war time 1943 original Engineers' Dictionary containing 480 pages. This expanded version covers electrical and mechanical engineering much more thoroughly. Radio, of which the first edition had nothing, has been given thorough study. Important terms of television have been included. All branches of civil engineering are brought up to date. Special attention has been given to photogrammetry, soil mechanics, and airport construction. It also includes the important terms peculiar to mining, shipbuilding, logging, sugar milling, and oil-field operations. A new feature with this edition is the notation of gender with all Spanish nouns. The author is quick to point out that he is an engineer and frequent references to chemistry, geology, or metallurgy do not mean that these subjects are covered. Each of them would need a volume of its own. Terms of these and other sciences here included are those which are regularly needed in connection with engineering work. The same criterion has governed the selection of a very few of the terms of finance, insurance, and transportation. The author notes the critics of his dictionary without definitions and be helieves that definitions are out of place in a two-language technical dictionary. He gives the example of a person who wants the Spanish equivalent of a slip-ring motor is not looking for the definition of a slip-ring motor. Definitions would add greatly to the book's bulk. Some of the terms in the original book were criticized as bad Spansh and that the listing of these terms in a dictonary does injury to the language. His response is that the correctness of technical terms in any language is established by the technical persons who create and use them and the job of the dictionary maker is to record this usage.
