Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the designs of the 18th-century furniture masters Langley and Batty, as well as the architect brothers Adam. It sets the furniture designs within the context of the interior decoration of the period, including examples from Osterley Park, Nostell Priory, and Harewood House. The author argues that the brothers Adam's furniture designs were not merely about ornament, but about establishing principles of proportion and harmony, revolutionizing the use of space and decoration in English furniture. The analysis explores the influence of Roman and Italian sources on the Adam style. This work is a valuable reference for anyone interested in the history of furniture design, providing unique insights into the creative processes and influences that shaped the iconic styles of the 18th century. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
