London; Printed for Thomas Osborne, 1743. 1st ed. [iv],iv,44pp. Period-style speckled calf-backed marbled boards. Light scattered foxing and toning, else very good. Rare, Worldcat locates only two copies. Wintringham (1710-1794) was a physician to the British forces and to King George III. He was a member of the Royal Society, a fellow of the College of Physicians, created a baronet in 1774, and buried in Westminster Abbey. He conducted his experiments on the relative strengths of arteries and veins. With the ownership signature of Archibald Kennedy either the 11th Earl of Cassilis or his father who had the same name. The elder Kennedy was married to the granddaughter of Jacob Leisler, governor of New York in the 1690s.
