An illustrated edition of Victor Hugo's famous French Gothic novel, in English. This is a very scarce early edition of Victor Hugo's work, in blue cloth binding with gilt detailing to the front board. Notre-Dame de Paris was first published in French in 1831. The first English translation was published in 1833. This copy was dated from a copy on JISC, held at The British Library. This famous work is set in Paris during the 15th Century and it follows the search for love of Quasimodo, the bell ringer at Notre-Dame. Since its publication, this work has been adapted many different times into both literature and film. There are many vignettes throughout this work, as well as a frontispiece of Notre-Dame Cathedral. In blue cloth binding with gilt motif to front cover. Externally, generally smart with some bumping to the extremities. Loss to cloth at the head and tail of the spine. Slight rubbing to spine and the occasional mark to boards. Internally firmly bound. Age toning to pages with the occasional spotting. Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 870Q37
