VG- undated second edition. A collection of essays and short comments by the great philosopher, politician and reformer. Blanchard B1 notes the details of the second edition to which this copy corresponds. There is a lengthy introduction by John Buchan, his first published work. xxxiii + 244 pages + 16-page publisher's catalogue. Maroon cloth with gold lettering and blind-stamped device on the front. The spine is faded as are the boards adjacent to it. The ends of the spine are a little worn and have some tiny splits. The binding is cracked at the front honge but remains firm. However, the front fly-leaf has been neatly removed. Internally very bright. There is a small ink stain on the outer edge of the text block. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 8293`
