Über den Autor: I am a medical doctor and the author of the book titled 'Essentials of Weightlifting and Strength Training', year 2003, New York. The following are the highlights of my personal background: (1) I am an Egyptian-born American citizen, born in 1950 in Alexandria, Egypt. (2) Practiced Weightlifting at the age of 14 and competed in college and state contests in the 90 kg class. (3) Studied engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Alexandria, Egypt (1969-1974) and graduated with B.Sc. in Engineering. (4) Joined the Faculty of Medicine, University of Alexandria in 1975 and graduated in 1981, with M.B. and Ch.B. (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). After two years of internship, I obtained my medical license and practiced as a rural physician, in Damanhour, province of Al-Behira, Egypt. (5) In 1977, I conducted research as a lecturer in the High Institute of Public Health in Alexandria in a conjoint project with the American Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the hazards of radioactive radon gas in the phosphate mines of South Egypt. (6) Overlapping with my undergraduate medical education, I studied for master and doctoral degrees in engineering and obtained my M.Sc. in 1978 and Ph.D. in 1983. My doctorate thesis in engineering was on the 'feasibility of laser-driven fusion'. A synopsis of the thesis was published in the Journal of Optical Society of America, in 1985. (7) In 1986 and 1987, I was awarded a postdoctoral research associateship by the National Research Council of U.S. and conducted research in the Frank. J.
