An edge-worn first edition of this edition with these illustrations. Covers show some wear. Binding is tight. A previous owner embossed his name on both the front end paper and the title page. In addition, he wrote his name in ink on the front end paper. Another owner rubber stamped her name many times on both the front and back end papers. In addition, she pasted a library pocket on the back end paper. This is not an ex-library copy rather a copy owned by an individual who loved the book. The introduction of this edition was written by Longfellow's niece and a note on the illustrations was written by Howard Pyle. There are ten tipped in color plates with tissue sheets.
