Beschreibung
An uncommon copy of the First Eve Book, featuring the recognisable character from the Tatler. A first edition of the uncommon First Eve Book, describing Eve's experiences during War-time, as a hospital nurse, encounters with the Zeps, as a policeman and her adventures with a submarine. The Eve column in theTatler was originally gossipy and girly in style; however, following a sales slump with the outbreak of war in 1914, the style was kept light but targeted to soldiers and their families at home. This work is dedicated to 'the boys in khaki and blue'.Illustrated by Annie Fish (1890-1964), an English cartoonist and illustrator, and the creator of 'Eve'. Fish also contributed to Vanity Fair, Punch, The Sketch and Vogue. Fish's illustrations of Eve spawned two silent films starring Eileen Molyneux for Gaumont in 1918, as well as theatre productions and books. With the text produced by Olivia Maitland-Davidson. In the publisher's original boards. Externally rather work; front board is loose, and there is a large amount of loss to the spine, as well as general wear and bumping to the extremities. Internally, binding is strained, with the front board and endpaper loose, as are pages 15 and 16. Pages are bright and clean. Fair. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 779R48
