Bracket evolution included modifications of the base design to provide higher bond strengths with adhesives, while concurrent efforts focused on decreasing the base surface areas, which at that time covered almost the entire labial mesiodistal tooth surface. Apart from these variations in designs, brackets also differ in the material. Brackets are manufactured from Stainless steel, Gold, Titanium, Cobalt-chromium, Polycarbonate and Fibre glass, Ceramic, Magnetic and metal reinforced plastic brackets. These brackets vary in certain factors such as bond strength, friction and fracture resistance. Brackets also vary in their dimensions and slot size. These factors influence treatment mechanics to a great extent. As, the wave of bracket design changes continues to mount, enormus varieties of brackets are available. The armamentarium of brackets discussed in this book for the present day Orthodontist is formidable and the knowledge of bracket system would enable them choose the best available system for their kind of practice.
