Beschreibung
A three volume set of Tobias Smollett's picaresque novels 'The Expedition of Humphry Clinker' 'The Expedition of Humphry Clinker' was the last of the picaresque novels of Tobias Smollett, and is considered by many to be his best and funniest work. Published in London on 17 June 1771, it is an epistolary novel, presented in the form of letters written by six different characters: Matthew Bramble, a Welsh Squire; his sister Tabitha; their niece and nephew, Jerry and Lydia Melford; Tabitha's maid Winifred Jenkins; and Lydia's suitor, Wilson. Third edition. In three volumes complete. Tobias George Smollett (1721 - 1771) was a Scottish poet and author. He was best known for his picaresque novels, such as The Adventures of Roderick Random (1748) and The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle (1751), which influenced later novelists such as Charles Dickens. His novels were amended liberally by printers; a definitive edition of each of his works was edited by Dr. O. M. Brack, Jr. to correct variants. Previous owner's ink inscription to front pastedown dated 1951. This edition has an errata to date to title pages, stating 1683 rather than 1783. Rebound in quarter cloth with paper covered boards. Externally, smart but with minor wear to extremities the odd mark and slight marginal offsetting to boards. Offsetting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright but with the occasional spot and handling mark. Very Good Indeed. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers SET4-G-7
