One of three "Explorers" books from Garry Hogg. This one about four kids and their uncle on a cycling tour of south-west England. All the places they visit and describe are real places (although it's cute to see how the depiction of the Cerne Giant is mellowed for young readers). This author had an interesting and varied output of work. Apart from these children's books, he wrote many travel guides to Britain and, curiously, a gruesome book on cannibalism. There's a color frontispiece and full page drawings by Molly Haigh, and many diagrams and maps, and the interesting map endpapers, by "Tony" (actually the author himself). First published in 1938, this is the third impression. Edges and prelims are slightly browned and spotted and there's an inscription on the half-title, but a very good copy in a very good, price-clipped dust jacket, a little worn to edges and with a grubby white rear panel.
