87pp. A compilation of poems and other writings in support of the campaign against the British government's decision in the 1880's to ban the publication of the works of Zola in the UK. The legal case pursued by Henry Vizetelly was lost and he was fined £100 for his translation and publication of Zola's novel La Terre. When he continued to publish Zola's "obscene" material he was fined £200 and sentenced to 3 months in prison. This edition is likely to be the Max Harzof (c 1924, New York) reprinted version but it does contain a copy of the loose inserted 4pp letter dated Sept 18, 1888 from Vizetelly to Sir A. K. Stephenson, the Solicitor to the Treasury. The book is bound with black cloth spine and grey paper covered boards. Covers are a bit dusty. Light toning to page edges.
