A reprint of this philosophical work, first published in 1667. Although the editor of this edition attributes the work to William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, the author is now believed to be Nicholas Horsman (1654 1689), a Church of England clergyman from Devon. With a previous owner's copperplate inscription to title page; Benjamin Fisher. The 'Arguments' include The Gospel a Trumpet, Of Vows Made in Sickness and Adversity, Against Rash Judgement and Self-Knowledge a Cure For Our Pride. In a paper covered binding with protective slipcase. Externally, worn with marks to boards. Slipcase is generally smart with slight shelfwear. Internally, binding loosening in places with ten leaves detached but present. Institutional ink stamps to front free endpaper and to verso of title page with ink marks also.
